When will you be recruiting panel members?
We recruit panel members when particular skills or experience are needed or when people leave the programme. Recruitment usually takes place twice a year.
What experience do I need to have?
We would love to hear from you if you have experience of community or inpatient mental health services for autistic people and people with learning disabilities.
This could be because you have used these services, you have supported an immediate family member who has used these services or you have worked in these services.
What does the role involve?
You would take part in Care (Education) and Treatment Reviews and work with a group of people known as a panel to review the care that people are getting at home or in hospital.
Each review panel includes:
• a chair,
• a clinical expert, and
• an expert by experience.
You would do this by visiting the place where the person is being treated and meeting them and their family members to hear about their experience and hopes for the future.
You would also do this by speaking to the professionals who are involved in their care and reviewing records relating to their care and treatment.
You would look for things that are working well and make recommendations about things that could be done better.

How much time would I need to give?
You would need to be available for one or two full day reviews each month and be willing to travel one or two hours so to attend the review. You would also have paperwork to read before and a report to read after each review.
You will be matched with the people having reviews based on your skills or life experience.
This means that the number of reviews you are invited to take part in each month will vary and regular reviews cannot be guaranteed.
What support would I get?
You would have an in-person induction day to learn more about the role and an online information session about the practical aspects of the role, such as bookings and payments.
You would also have an opportunity to shadow a review and be mentored by an experienced panel member before you start.
You will have regular opportunities to connect with other panel members and develop your knowledge through meetings, training sessions and a shared online platform. You will also have support from our friendly team and access to health and wellbeing services.
Is this a paid or voluntary role?
You will receive a fee and expenses for your role as a panel member. Please see the last page of the policy for rates of pay.

I have completed the form, what happens next?
We will be in touch when we are looking for new panel members. We usually recruitment panel members twice a year.
You will be asked to complete an application form and be invited to an interview if you have the skills and experience that we need.
We will ask you to tell us more about your experience and will answer any questions you have about the role.
You will then be invited to attend an induction day if you meet the current requirements for panel members.
