Experience shows that employers are very willing to employ people with learning disabilities, with mental health conditions and young people with SEND. IT is important to present employers with the business case for giving people a job, and then ensure that the right support is in place.
NDTi can advise and support on how to do this effectively. One example of this is the work on Employment is Everyone’s Business, that includes a guide for employers.
NDTi are also leading on a project with the Health and Wellbeing Alliance which was developed in partnership with Learning Disability England, BILD, the Complex Needs Alliance, the Win-Win Alliance and the Mental Health Consortium. This aims to support the transition into work of young people experiencing common and severe mental health problems and people with a learning disability and / or autism. The project is co-producing resources for employers, specifically aimed at public sector organisations and NHS Trusts to ensure they understand the business case for a diverse workforce and ways to include people with mental health conditions, a learning disability and / or autism in their workforce.
The resources, which will be published soon include an interactive guide for employers with a range of case studies. It highlights where employers and support organisations can go for additional information, as well as where support and brokerage services can be found.
