Kelsi and Owen's Story

YMCA Plymouth provided a specialist work placement for two young people from Discovery College who were undertaking a Sport and Leisure Supported Internships.

Since joining Kelsi and Owen have gained valuable experience of working within a number of different areas including reception, housekeeping and sales. They then worked within an area of the business that they enjoy and felt suited them the most, Kelsi worked in the cafe and Owen worked in the gym, where they gained further qualifications and skills.

Kelsi has grown in confidence and is becoming more comfortable in her working environment. She has since secured part-time paid employment with this employer.

Owen has really enjoyed working at Plymouth Life Centre and is a big hit with the aquafit ladies who he checks in on every Friday. He has since started a leisure apprenticeship.
